"Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems"

On October 19, 2025 there was an  event on the topic: "Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems" with the participation of   students majoring in «Hydrology» within the framework  of the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). The goal of the event was to enhance students' environmental literacy, develop future specialists' knowledge of the problems of terrestrial ecosystem degradation and conservation strategies, and develop skills in analyzing and developing practical proposals for sustainable environmental management. At the beginning of the lesson, the lecturer  introduced the students to the objectives of the SDGs and emphasized the importance of protecting terrestrial ecosystems, forests, and biodiversity. The students then presented reports, posters, and presentations on deforestation, desertification, the conservation of Kazakhstan's steppe and desert ecosystems, the protection of rare and endangered plant and animal species, and the rational use of land and water resources. As a result of the event, the  students deepened their knowledge of contemporary environmental issues, enhanced their understanding of international and national strategies for protecting terrestrial ecosystems, developed practical proposals for sustainable resource use, and demonstrated an active and interested interest in applying their acquired knowledge in their future professional endeavors. The lesson fostered environmental responsibility and an appreciation of the importance of hydrologists' professional role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
