American students of the “Flagman” program at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University explored Kazakhstan’s experience in unity and tolerance within the framework of the UN SDGs

On October 10, 2025, at the Almaty House of Friendship, Professor Mendyganym Zhamalbekovna Shaimerenova of the Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts delivered a leadership lecture titled “The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan: Ethnocultural Diversity and the Preservation of Traditions.” The event was organized for American students of the “Flagman” program at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University as part of their academic exchange.

The lecture was held within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Al-Farabi KazNU and the Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts, and in the context of promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 “Quality Education” and SDG 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”), aimed at fostering intercultural dialogue, a culture of peace, and social harmony.

During the lecture, Professor Shaimerenova introduced the students to the activities of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, a unique public institution uniting more than 130 ethnic groups in the country. She emphasized the Assembly’s role in strengthening civic unity, supporting ethnocultural centers, and preserving linguistic and cultural traditions.

The American students actively participated in the discussion, asking questions about mechanisms for preserving cultural values and the role of youth in promoting interethnic harmony. They expressed admiration for Kazakhstan’s rich cultural diversity and showed great interest in learning more about the nation’s history, culture, and traditions.

The event contributed to the development of intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and the positive international image of Kazakhstan as a country that successfully implements the principles of unity and diversity.
