International Conference at Al-Farabi KazNU: Dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of Professor Saken Kalamkaliyevich Davletgaliyev

On October 9–10, 2025, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Methods and Technologies for the Analysis, Assessment, and Forecasting of Water Resources”, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Saken Kalamkaliyevich Davletgaliyev — an outstanding scholar, educator, and founder of the national hydrological school of Kazakhstan.

The conference brought together leading specialists from Kazakhstan, Russia, Spain, and the Netherlands. Among the participants were representatives of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (St. Petersburg), L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, RSE “Kazhydromet”, the Institute of Geography and Water Security, the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), and IHE Delft (the Netherlands).

Plenary sessions focused on key areas of hydrological research, including water resource forecasting, digitalization of hydrology, the application of GIS and machine learning, and adaptation to climate change. Serik Sairov, Adviser to the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the WMO, delivered a notable presentation and presented Professor Davletgaliyev with a special issue of the Hydrometeorology and Ecology journal dedicated to his scientific legacy.

Professor Davletgaliyev’s students warmly recalled their mentor, emphasizing his professionalism, integrity, and invaluable contribution to the development of hydrological science in Kazakhstan.

On the second day, participants visited the Al-Farabi Museum, the Center for Space Technologies, and the innovative laboratories of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management.

The conference became a bridge between generations, uniting the scientific community in honoring a man who became a symbol of morality, intelligence, and scientific depth — Professor Saken Kalamkaliyevich Davletgaliyev.
