SDG 2, 8, 11, 12: The “Festive Autumn” Fair was held at Al-Farabi KazNU

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted its annual “Festive Autumn” Fair in celebration of Republic Day and the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Kazakhstan. The event’s primary objective was to honor these key milestones in our nation’s history, encourage students’ social engagement, strengthen their patriotic spirit, and support their creative and entrepreneurial endeavors.

The university campus was festively adorned, and faculty members, staff, and students all participated actively. Visitors were offered a wide array of products and items, including eco-friendly produce from the KazNU Agrobiostation, dishes prepared by students of the “Kömek” Public Fund, handcrafted and jewelry items, national-style bags and woven footwear, and a book exhibition featuring titles from domestic publishers that drew considerable interest.

In addition, a student art exhibition was held as part of the fair. Young artists painted outdoors, depicting autumn’s vibrant hues, the university grounds, and their love of country through their work. The pieces received strong commendations from attendees.

The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by a concert programme and intellectual games. Talented students and creative groups treated the audience to lively song and dance performances, while intellectual competitions tested participants’ knowledge and wit — with commendations and valuable prizes awarded to standout individuals.

A dedicated zone for traditional games also featured prominently. Students and faculty competed in asyk atu (knucklebone shooting), togyz kumalak, tug-of-war, arm wrestling, and Kazakh wrestling, showcasing skill and spirited determination.

Such cultural and social events play an important role in preserving Al-Farabi KazNU’s longstanding traditions, cultivating active civic mindedness among youth, and reinforcing the unity of the university community.

The annual “Festive Autumn” Fair at Al-Farabi KazNU has become one of the brightest highlights of university life. It offers students the opportunity to exhibit their talents, promote eco-friendly products, and celebrate national art and culture. At the same time, the initiative fosters a spirit of solidarity, mutual support, and festive unity.
