On October 23, the curators of the Department of the Middle East and South Asia, F.T. Zhumazhanova and A.Zh. Boranbayeva, held a curatorial meeting with students residing in the dormitory in anticipation of Republic Day, which is celebrated on October 25.

During the meeting, the curators spoke to the students about the history of the holiday. It was emphasized that on October 25, 1990, the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR adopted the first legal document of independent Kazakhstan — the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the Republic — which became the political and legal foundation of a sovereign state. The students also learned about the significance of this date as a national holiday, and the curators explained the differences between national and state holidays. It was noted that national holidays are established to commemorate events of special historical significance that have had a profound impact on the development of the country. On such days, official ceremonies are held at both central and local levels. State holidays, in turn, are dedicated to socio-political events and are traditionally celebrated by the citizens of Kazakhstan. Official ceremonies and public events may also take place on these occasions. The curatorial hour helped broaden the students’ knowledge of the history and traditions of independent Kazakhstan, while fostering civic identity and patriotism.
