"The Russian Language in the Modern World"
On November 4, 2025, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal "Quality Education," an event on the topic: "The Russian Language in the Modern World" was held. It was organized by the first-year students majoring in Literary Studies under the guidance of senior lecturer L.A. Tursalieva. The event aimed at developing the students' cognitive activity and engage them in creative pursuits.Poems and quotes about the Russian language were recited. Russian has long been considered one of the most important and richest languages in the world. Currently, it is spoken by approximately half a billion people. The Russian language is among the top ten world languages in terms of the total number of speakers, but it is quite difficult to determine this position precisely.The number of people who consider Russian their native language exceeds 200 million, 130 million of whom live in Russia. An estimated 300-350 million people speak Russian fluently and use it as a first or second language in everyday communication.In total, more than half a billion people worldwide speak Russian to varying degrees, placing Russian in third place in the world after Chinese and English.
