In 2025, the 1155th anniversary of the birth of Abu Nasr al-Farabi — a great figure of human civilization and the “Second Teacher” — is being celebrated. Al-Farabi is an outstanding representative of the global intellectual heritage whose work made a profound contribution to the advancement of reason, wisdom, and scientific knowledge.

From November 3 to 8, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held “Al-Farabi Week,” dedicated to the 1155th anniversary of the eminent philosopher. Throughout the week, the university hosted scientific projects, meetings with leading Farabi scholars, essay competitions on the topics “Farabi’s Wisdom and the Technologies of the Future” and “Presenting Farabi’s Ideas in Contemporary Language,” as well as the preparation of infographics, posters, and other activities aimed at promoting Al-Farabi’s intellectual legacy.

The Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences also organized a series of thematic events. Students participated in competitions across several categories, and the best works were submitted to the Al-Farabi Center. Based on the results of the university-wide selection, the winners were determined and awarded special prizes by Margulan Kasenuly Ibraimov, Member of the Board of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation.

First-year student of the educational program “6B07304 – Cadastre,” Magzhan Baglanuly Serik, took 3rd place with his essay “Farabi’s Wisdom and the Technologies of the Future.” First-year doctoral student of the program “8D07302 – Geoinformatics,” Zhanarys Bakytzhanuly Turymtaev, won 2nd place with his video project “The Image and Word of Al-Farabi Created Using Artificial Intelligence.”

We sincerely congratulate our faculty’s winners and wish them continued success in their academic and scientific pursuits.
