The grand opening of the SDG alley within the framework of the Campus-in-Campus (CiC) program took place at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The event was opened by Vice-rectors of the University of Tsukuba Yasushi Nakauchi and Ikeda Jun, congratulating the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management on the significant event.
Head of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics Aizhan Asylbekova presented the Center for Seismology and Geodynamics, spoke about its significance and goals. The purpose of the center is to conduct fundamental and applied research in the field of seismology and exogenous geodynamic processes aimed at understanding the mechanics and dynamics of earthquakes, forecasting seismic activity, and studying the influence of exogenous factors on the geodynamics of the Earth's crust. The Center for Seismology and Geodynamics also develops innovative methods and technologies for assessing and minimizing seismic hazards, ensuring safety in seismic zones, integrating scientific experience with educational activities and training highly qualified specialists.
The goals of the SDG Alley are to inform students and staff about sustainable development, including environmental, social, and economic aspects, motivate them to act for a sustainable future, create a space for SDG-related initiatives, including exhibitions on renewable energy and waste reduction tips, and platforms for research, projects, and student discussions on sustainable development. development.
Negotiations are currently underway with the University of Grenoble (Université Grenoble Alpes, France), and the implementation of the master's degree program "Geomorphology and Geodynamics of the Earth's Crust" is being discussed. It provides for the training of qualified specialists in the field of seismology and geodynamics in the future.
As part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the main goals of the department are quality education and strengthening international cooperation. Together with the University of Tsukuba (Japan) and the University of Grenoble (France), the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics is taking important steps to train specialists in the field of seismology who meet modern requirements.
