“Is There an Alternative to Plastic? debate

On November 18, 2025, the Faculty of Philology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a debate titled “Is There an Alternative to Plastic?” among the 1st- and the 3rd-year students majoring in  “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages.” The event was organized by Senior Lecturer of the Department of Turkic Studies and Theory of Language, Gulnaz Serikovna Nabiyeva.

     The debate was conducted within the framework of SDG 14: Life Below Water and aimed to promote environmental awareness, explore strategies for reducing plastic consumption, and evaluate the potential of modern technologies in developing alternative materials.

     During the discussion, students examined data on plastic pollution in marine waters, the impact of plastic on marine ecosystems, possibilities for recycling, and the advancement of  eco-friendly material technologies.
