INVITATION TO THE LEADERSHIP LECTURE

The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology cordially invites you to the leadership lecture by Professor Tattym Shaiken titled “The Nature of Cancer and Approaches to Combating Oncological Diseases.” The lecture will take place on November 28, 2025, at 12:00 in the Conference Hall of the Rectorate of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, 15th floor.

Tattym Shaiken is a graduate of the Faculty of Biology of KazSU (1979) and is currently one of the world’s leading scientists in the field of cell biology. Dr. Shaiken is the founder and CEO of Peri‑Nuc Labs (Houston, USA), a research professor at Baylor College of Medicine, and the American-side coordinator of the Kazakhstan–American Cytomatrix Research Center at KazNU.

Professor Shaiken’s laboratory has developed innovative approaches to the study of cancer and cell biology. His team succeeded in discovering, isolating, and characterizing the cytomatrix—an elastic solid phase of the cytoplasm whose existence was predicted nearly fifty years ago. Understanding the cytomatrix is crucial for advancing anticancer strategies.

Professor Shaiken and his team have developed a rapid and sensitive technology for the efficient isolation of malignant cells from frozen tumor samples for cellr fingerprinting, as well as a high-throughput screening method for chemical compounds. These technologies make it possible to determine the immunogenetic properties of malignant cells, assess the affinity of anticancer antibodies, and screen potential anticancer agents that may significantly improve the effectiveness of cancer therapy.

The leadership lecture by Professor Tattym Shaiken will be of great interest to all those engaged in the study of molecular and cellular mechanisms of cancer development, technological advances in cell biology, and issues related to the commercialization of scientific discoveries.
