Kazakh-American Cytomatrix research Center opened in KazNU

The Kazakh-American Cytomatrix Research Center was officially opened at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The scientists of the new center will study in depth the structure of the cytomatrix and complex cellular processes, contributing to the development of biomedical science. Joint innovative solutions in the biology of cellular changes in tumor cells will also be implemented. This will allow us to train highly qualified scientific staff.

The large-scale event was attended by: Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev, CEO of Peri-Nuc Labs LLP, Professor at the University of Houston in the USA Tattym Shaiken, Scientific Director of the ECOMED Clinic, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Saltanat Baykoshkarova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology Gulmira Zhurabekova, representatives of domestic research institutes and leading clinics, renowned scientists and experts.

In his speech, the head of the university, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, noted that the opening of the joint center is an important step in Kazakh science.   "In his speech at the forum of strategic partners "Kazakhstan – the field of academic education", President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said: "The main mission of science is to serve the human good. Strong universities are the real factories of the future, where ideas are born, barriers are overcome, and the contours of a more just and harmonious world are formed". As part of the presidential assignment, we are faced with the tasks of improving science and introducing artificial intelligence technologies in all areas. The opening of a new center at the university is the result of relations between Kazakhstan and the United States. The agreement on the establishment of the center was signed on July 6, 2024. In the future, a large research and innovation cluster will be created on its basis", - said the rector.

In turn, Professor Tattym Shaiken presented a scientific presentation on the properties of the cytomatrix and the directions of new research. He emphasized the importance of the cytomatrix for studying the behavior of cancer cells and outlined the main directions of upcoming joint projects. "Currently, scientists around the world are conducting various studies on the removal and treatment of cancer. This is our main goal. We will work on preventing the development of cancer in the cell through cytoplasm research",- said Tattym Shaiken.

Leading Russian experts also delivered welcoming speeches during the event. Gulmira Zhurabekova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, expressed confidence that this center will strengthen the scientific potential of the oncological industry in our country. Saltanat Baykoshkarova, Scientific Director of the Ecomed clinic network, said: "The recognition of Kazakh science at the international level is the result of such initiatives. The project opens up new opportunities for young researchers".

It is worth noting that KazNU students will undergo internships using the center's equipment. After the opening of the center, a special tour was organized for the guests, demonstrating the results of the work of scientific centers and laboratories at the university.
