Al-Farabi KazNU Welcomed the Delegation of Shaanxi Province and Presented the University’s Research Centers

On 26 November 2025, a meeting was held between the Almaty Department of Entrepreneurship and Investments, headed by B.Sh. Mandibaeva, and the official delegation of Shaanxi Province of the People’s Republic of China. Following the official part of the visit, and within the framework of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals — particularly SDG 4 “Quality Education”, SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure”, SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, SDG 13 “Climate Action”, and SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals” — the delegation visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Special attention was given to the university’s research centers and laboratories, which serve as a key platform for strengthening international scientific and technological cooperation.

Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Aliya Sagyndykovna Aktymbaeva, and Director of the Center for Technology Commercialization and Creative Industries, Takhir Azatuly, presented the university’s research infrastructure to the heads of agencies, corporations, and organizations. The guests were shown the work of major research centers, including the laboratories of the Scientific Center for Sustainable Development and Natural Resource Management, the Earth Remote Sensing Center, the Experimental and Theoretical Physics Complex, the innovative materials development platforms, and the digital technology research clusters.

The Chinese side expressed particular interest in KazNU’s technological capabilities related to the development of unmanned aerial vehicles, environmental modeling, big data processing, GIS technologies, and Earth remote sensing. In the context of implementing SDG 9 and SDG 17, the parties discussed prospects for establishing joint research programs, exchanging experts, technology transfer, and commercialization of scientific developments.

The representatives highly appreciated the university’s laboratory facilities, innovation centers, and human capital, noting that the development of joint scientific projects aligns with global sustainable development priorities and opens new opportunities for cooperation between Almaty and Shaanxi Province.

At the end of the visit, the parties expressed their readiness to continue developing mechanisms for cooperation, expand collaboration in technology, science, and education, and advance large-scale joint projects aimed at strengthening the scientific and technological potential of the regions and achieving key SDG benchmarks. The Kazakh side expressed sincere gratitude to the partners from Shaanxi for the productive dialogue and emphasized the importance of further contacts and mutually beneficial cooperation.
