On November 29, 2025, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a landmark event in the field of science and education. Distinguished visiting scholar, Associate Professor at Istanbul University and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Ayna Askeroglu Arslan, met with the faculty of the Department of Turkology and History of Eastern Countries to discuss scientific collaboration.
Professor Askeroglu Arslan, a member of the editorial board of the AVID Eurasian Studies journal and author of works indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, is recognized as a leading expert in Turkology and Oriental Studies. Her visit carries strategic significance not only for the faculty but also for the broader field of humanities in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, participants explored key research directions in Turkology, history, cultural studies, and religious studies, as well as the potential for joint projects and studies. Expanding academic mobility, conducting scientific seminars, and organizing international events were identified as core areas of cooperation.
A highlight of the visit was a roundtable with the faculty’s students. Young researchers had a unique opportunity to interact directly with an internationally renowned scholar, ask questions, and receive professional guidance, providing invaluable experience for their academic growth.
At the conclusion of her visit, Professor Askeroglu Arslan agreed to deliver a lecture series at the Department of Turkology and History of Eastern Countries on “Current Issues in Historical Research”, offering KazNU students and young scholars a significant opportunity to expand their professional and scientific horizons.
Furthermore, the professor officially invited KazNU doctoral students and faculty members to participate with presentations at the international symposium “Ethnic Groups and Migrants in Kazakhstan”, scheduled for March 2026 at Istanbul University. This invitation underscores the deepening collaboration between the two universities and the strengthening of mutual trust.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues to reinforce its connections with the global scientific community and actively engage with leading international experts.
