Opening Ceremony of the Kazakhstan–American Cytomatrix Research Center

4 december, 2025

On November 27, 2025, the official opening of the Kazakhstan–American Cytomatrix Research Center (KACC) took place at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This center is a major joint initiative of scientists from Kazakhstan and the United States and serves as a multidisciplinary platform for new research in biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and medicine.

The large-scale event was attended by the Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU, Zhanseit Tuimebayev; CEO of Peri-Nuc Labs LLP and Professor at the University of Houston (USA), Tattym Shaiken; Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Meruуert Kurmanbayeva; as well as Scientific Director of the «ECOMED» Clinics, Saltanat Baikoshkarova; Deputy Chair of the Board of the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, Gulmira Zhurabekova; representatives of national research institutes and leading clinics, prominent scientists, and experts.

The new center is focused on the in-depth study of the structure of the cytomatrix, its role in cellular processes, and its potential clinical applications. Special attention is given to identifying the effects of the cytomatrix on the growth and spread of cancer cells — one of today’s key scientific challenges.

During his presentation, Professor Tattym Shaiken emphasized that the cytomatrix forms the microenvironment of tumor cells and is an important factor influencing their behavior and movement within the body. He noted that the center’s research will allow:

• a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of tumor development;
• analysis of interactions between the cytomatrix and cancer cells;
• proposing new approaches for cancer prevention and early diagnosis;
• developing innovative therapeutic strategies.

Additionally, leading experts of Kazakhstan delivered congratulatory remarks, highlighting that the opening of the center is an important step for the development of national biomedicine, chemistry, cell biology, and medicine. They noted that KACC will provide young scientists with new research opportunities, strengthen international scientific collaboration, and make a significant contribution to enhancing the quality of oncological research, diagnostics, and therapy.
