- Within the framework of SDG 15, “Protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss”, an open educational session was held on the topic “Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems and Protection of Biodiversity.”
Within the framework of SDG 15, “Protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss”, an open educational session was held on the topic “Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems and Protection of Biodiversity.”
On November 25, 2025, the Department of Botany and Agroecology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an educational event on the topic of «Conservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems and Biodiversity» as part of SDG 15. The main aim of the event was to enhance students’ environmental literacy, promote sustainable use of natural resources, and introduce the key objectives of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to SDG-15.
During the event:
- the ecological and social importance of plant biodiversity was explained;
- the current state of Kazakhstan’s terrestrial ecosystems and the issues related to the conservation of rare plant species were discussed;
- the national implementation of SDG-15 targets was reviewed;
- interactive tasks and group activities aimed at developing ecological thinking were conducted.
The open educational session contributed to strengthening students’ environmental responsibility and fostering a culture of nature conservation.
