“Modern Forms of Patriotism and Civic Responsibility” SDG Focus Areas: SDG 4 – Quality Education SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
The session was conducted by curator Bolatbek A.B., who began with an overview of the diverse forms of patriotism in the modern era. It was emphasized that patriotism today is reflected not only in historical memory or military achievements, but also in civic responsibility, ethical behavior, adherence to law, social participation, and meaningful contribution to one’s community.
The curator outlined key aspects of civic responsibility:
• duty toward society and respect for the state;
• participation in volunteer activities and social projects;
• respect for national symbols and law;
• environmental awareness and protection of public property;
• readiness to provide help in emergency situations.
Students discussed modern patriotic initiatives such as ecological actions, digital safety culture, countering cyberviolations, scientific and educational contribution, and preservation of cultural heritage. Media literacy and the ability to distinguish fake information were emphasized as essential components of responsible citizenship.
During the discussion, students reflected on the questions “What does it mean to be a patriot today?” and “How can young people contribute to the development of their country?” They offered examples of volunteer work, project ideas, and shared personal experiences. The curator stressed the importance of unity, mutual respect, social engagement and responsibility as foundation values for modern patriotic identity.
The curatorial hour helped students deepen their understanding of patriotism as a personal and practical contribution to the country’s growth. Participants concluded that patriotism is reflected not only in declarations, but in daily actions, responsibility, and willingness to serve society. The meeting encouraged students to develop an active civic position and take part in national progress.
