Warm Faces and Stories of the Elderly
Second-year students of the “Meteorology” program at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University visited the ‘Meirim’ Nursing Home at 15 Sypatai Batyr Street.
At first, students felt a little nervous about how the elderly would receive them and how the conversation would go. However, the residents welcomed them warmly, and the conversation was easy and comfortable.
Most of the residents are people with rich life experience, who worked in various fields: teachers, healthcare workers, army veterans, and long-time laborers. Each of them has their own life story and memories to share.
During the visit, students learned about the residents’ health, daily life, care conditions, and concerns. The elderly shared their experiences and gave advice on the importance of learning, patience, discipline, and kindness.
The visit helped students understand the value of respecting elders, develop empathy and compassion, and provided the elderly with a good opportunity to socialize.
