Meeting of students with a scientist from China Kunbolat Sungat

On November 24, 2025, the Faculty of Law at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a meeting with representatives of the School of Political Science and Law of Gansu University of the People’s Republic of China. During the event, a comparative analysis of the legal systems of Kazakhstan and China was conducted, and the development trends of both countries’ legislation were discussed.

The honorary guest of the meeting was Kunbolat Sungat — a specialist in translating the Civil Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan into Chinese, and an expert with extensive experience in international law. He studies Kazakh legal culture in its historical context, exploring the connection between national traditions and legal norms.

Kunbolat Sungat, an ethnic Kazakh, was born in January 1975 in the city of Xinjiang. He is currently a professor at the School of Foreign Law of Gansu University of Political Science and Law, Doctor of Law, Director of the Center for Kazakhstani Socio-Legal Studies, and a specialist in ancient history. He is also the author of books on ethnic minorities of Gansu Province and an honorary professor at Kuneev University in Almaty.

The scholar has authored more than 20 scientific articles published in academic journals, including the Journal of Xinjiang University, the Journal of Northwest University, and “Russian Studies in Central Asia and Eastern Europe,” among others.
His main research areas include traditional Kazakh legal culture and the modern legal system of Kazakhstan.
