As part of their teaching practice, 3rd-year students of the “Chemistry” specialty at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an event on the topic “Chemistry and the Professions of the Future: How to Choose Your Path in a Rapidly Changing World.” The moderator of the meeting was U. Zhatkambayeva, a 1st-year doctoral student of the specialty “8D07101–Petrochemistry.”
During the event, students identified the following prospective career paths in the field of chemistry: 1. Specialist in molecular design, as the development of artificial intelligence allows new substances to be created much faster than synthesizing them in a laboratory; 2. Engineer for the implementation of green technologies, who develops future production systems without waste and harmful emissions into the environment, which is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in industrial activity and for addressing global environmental challenges; 3. Specialist in hydrogen energy and battery chemistry, responsible for the development of new fuel cells and electrode materials.
At the end of the meeting, a quiz covering key questions in chemistry and ecology was conducted. The students successfully completed the assigned tasks, actively expressed their ideas and suggestions, demonstrated a high level of knowledge by answering questions, and took an active part in the discussion.
Overall, the event had a positive impact on the students, as it encouraged a more thoughtful approach to choosing their future professional path and expanded their understanding of the role of chemistry in solving current global challenges.
