On December 12, 2025, the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) hosted a leadership lecture by an invited international scholar, PhD Gábor Sramkó (Gábor Sramkó) from the University of Debrecen (Hungary). The event was organized by the Department of Botany and Agroecology.

The lecture, titled “The role of Central Asian mountains in the evolution of the Eurasian steppe biota,” focused on how Central Asian mountain systems have shaped the formation and evolution of the Eurasian steppe biota. The speaker presented up-to-date findings from molecular genetic and phylogenetic studies based on RAD-seq and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) approaches.

The lecture brought together undergraduate students, master’s students, doctoral candidates, and faculty members. It attracted strong interest from specialists working on biodiversity, evolution, and genetics.

Hosting this leadership lecture contributed to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 — Quality Education, promoting international research collaboration and integrating cutting-edge science into KazNU’s educational process.
