A Scientific Seminar on the Relations between the Han Empire and the Wusun State Was Held at the Department of Chinese Studies
On December 11, 2025, Zhazira Kurbanali, a second-year PhD student of the educational program “8D02209 – Oriental Studies” at the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, held a scientific seminar entitled “Relations between the Han Empire and the Wusun State.”
The seminar was attended by faculty members, PhD and master’s students, as well as researchers interested in the historical development of Chinese culture. The main aim of the event was to examine the relations between the Han Empire and the Wusun State in the context of the formation of the Silk Road routes in Central Asia and to highlight their role in the interactions between East and West. In addition, the reasons for the strengthening of the Han Empire and its expansion into Central Asia were discussed.
During the seminar, various scholarly perspectives on the historical, cultural, military, and economic relations between the Han Empire and the Wusun State were analyzed. As a result of the seminar, a decision was made to prepare a scientific publication and to organize additional meetings for further in-depth study of the topic.
