KazNU hosted an expanded meeting of heads of universities and research institutes

An expanded meeting of university rectors and directors of research institutes was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva.

 

During the event, the main tasks set by Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the development of science and higher education were discussed. In particular, special attention was paid to improving the competitiveness of domestic science, the quality of scientific research, and the orientation of university science to the needs of production and society.

The informally organized meeting was attended by President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kurishbayev, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Gulzat Kobenova, Deputy Akim of Almaty Abzal Nukenov.

"Science and higher education are the key foundations of the country's sustainable development. Universities and scientific organizations should become centers that make a real contribution to the socio-economic development of the state. Therefore, adaptation to market requirements is a matter of time",- said Aida Galymkyzy.

In turn, Gulzat Kobenova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted that the Ministry is systematically working to develop national science, support young scientists, and modernize scientific infrastructure. "Currently, school graduates are increasingly choosing universities in the regions and enrolling in these educational institutions. An essential role in this is played by the opening of branches of foreign higher education institutions in each region. Therefore, each university needs to develop its infrastructure and be prepared to increase the number of young people studying. Today, more than 40 percent of Russian scientists are young specialists. With the support of the Head of State, young researchers are provided with housing, and all conditions are created for engaging in scientific activities",- the Vice Minister noted.

Chairman of the Board, Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev made a presentation at the event, who noted that the university combines a traditional scientific school with modern world experience. "President Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich said: "Education and science need international best practices. Universities and scientific organizations should become a strategic center that will make a great contribution to the socio-economic development of the country". KazNU has 39 research centers and 140 laboratories, and about 400 scientific projects are being implemented. In recent years, more than 110 million dollars of investments have been attracted, and 50 modern laboratories have been opened. The Head of State instructed to adapt Russian science to modern requirements and introduce artificial intelligence technologies in all areas. The educational institution is doing a lot of work in this direction",- said the Rector.

At the end of the meeting, the participants made proposals aimed at further development of science and higher education, and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between universities and research institutes.

Then, members of the delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, visited the Farabi HUB scientific center at KazNU, where innovative projects implemented by university scientists were demonstrated. The Deputy Prime Minister was also presented with the results of scientific projects in such fields as chemistry, biology, physics, nano- and biotechnology.
