KazNU motivates young scientists to develop research on sustainable development. “The Farabi GreenCampus: Taza University” competition for green projects by young scientists was held at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology.

On November 24, early-career researchers from the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology and the Department of Botany and Agroecology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in the Green Projects Competition held as part of the “Farabi Green Campus: Taza University” environmental youth forum. The forum and related activities were organized within the nationwide “Taza Qazaqstan” campaign. Young PhD students, master’s students, and bachelor’s-level learners from various disciplines presented their environmental ideas in the form of projects, research studies, developments, and initiatives.

The projects were presented in the following areas:

    waste reduction and recycling, water and air quality protection,

    artificial intelligence and green future projects, energy conservation,

    environmental education and awareness raising

    biodiversity and pollinator conservation, ecosystem restoration, sustainable urban greening.

The jury consisted of professors, teachers, and faculty staff: 1 chair, 5 jury members, and 1 secretary.

Based on the jury's vote, the best eco-initiatives received diplomas and prize certificates worth 100,000, 70,000, and 30,000 tenge. The winners were awarded at the forum on November 25, along with projects from other faculties, in the Malachite Hall of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology.

Results of the competition at the faculty and project areas:

1st place – “ARALAP: ecological greening of the campus to support and preserve pollinators,” Galymzhanov Islam, Zhanbasbaeva Symbat, Nurkhanov Ruslan

2nd place – “Benchmark analysis of immobilization systems for algal-cyanobacterial consortia in the bioremediation of saline soils in Kazakhstan,” Dilnaz Zaletova

3rd place – “FarabiGreen Point” – a smart ecological solution for the process of collecting waste on the university campus, Kolamsak Saule “Development of a technology for producing eco-friendly disposable tableware from renewable waste” by Aruzhan Mukhambetjanova
