The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al- Farabi KazNU became the platform for the international initiative "Scientists of the Future" to conduct a training session for program expert Anna Aleksandrovna Bobrik, PhD in Biology and Associate Professor of the Department of General Soil Science at the Faculty of Soil Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
On December 8-9, 2025, as part of an initiative by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, a series of lectures and practical sessions on "Soil - Carbon - Climate. Combating Climate Change: The Russian Carbon Polygon Project" was held. Participants included specialists from the U. U. Uspanov Kazakh Research Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry , students, master's students, doctoral students, university staff, and guests interested in the climate agenda. The training brought together 30 participants, more than half of whom were guests from other organizations and proactive citizens.
Following the meetings, an agreement on scientific and educational cooperation was signed between the Faculty of Soil Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al- Farabi Kazakh National University. A partnership was established with the U. U. Uspanov Kazakh Research Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry .
Trilateral scientific cooperation will focus on joint research in the field of carbon polygons—special areas for studying carbon balances and developing scientifically sound solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This collaboration makes a significant contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 "Climate Action," and strengthens Kazakhstan's position in international climate research ( SDG 17) .
