On December 17, 2025, a significant academic event took place at the Faculty of History of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. As part of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 17 — "Partnerships for the Goals", Professor of the Institute of History at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (Poland), Habilitated Doctor Artur Górak, delivered a guest lecture.

Lecture Topic: "The Fate of Archive Funds in Poland from its Partitions in the Late 18th Century and Their Impact on Historical Research (using the example of a town's coat of arms)."

Goals and Objectives:

  • Global Partnership: Strengthening the long-standing collaboration (since 2018) between Al-Farabi KazNU and leading Polish research centers.

  • Professional Development: Enhancing the expertise of undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of "Archival Science, Records Management and Documentation Support" and "IT Archival Science."

  • Methodological Exchange: Introducing future specialists to European methods of working with fragmented archival collections and microhistorical analysis techniques.

  • Innovative Approach: Discussing the impact of digitalization on the preservation of historical memory.

During the lecture, Professor Górak provided an in-depth look at the tragic and complex stages of Polish archival migration caused by geopolitical shifts. Using the evolution of a small Polish town's coat of arms as a case study, he demonstrated how archival documents serve as the only reliable source for restoring historical identity. Special emphasis was placed on the interdisciplinary links between classical archival science and modern IT technologies.
