The Bridge of Science and Continuity
At the end of November, the International Scientific Conference "IV Dobrodomov Readings: Language – History – Culture" was held in the historic building of Moscow Pedagogical State University. The event was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Igor Georgievich Dobrodomov, an outstanding scientist, Head of the Department of General Linguistics at Moscow State University, Honorary Professor of the University, as well as Ksenia Smolina, Professor of the Department of General Linguistics at Moscow State University.
The conference began with a plenary session, at which the Rector of Moscow State University, Alexey Lubkov, leading academicians and professors of Moscow State University and Moscow State University, as well as the Vice-rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Tatyana Kortava, spoke. Special attention was drawn to the welcoming speech of the Chairman of the Board, Rector of the Al–Farabi Kazakh National University, Doctor of Philology, Professor Zhanseit Tuimebayev. His address was profound and informative, emphasizing the significance of the event for Russian and Kazakh linguistics.
In his speech, the rector noted that Dobrodomov readings are an important phenomenon in academic life, bringing together researchers dedicated to the study and development of Russian and world linguistics. The thematic diversity of the conference, from the history of the Russian literary language and ancient Russian texts to Turkology, applied Russian studies and linguistic source studies, vividly reflects the scale of scientific research by I.G. Dobrodomov and K.P. Smolina.

It was also noted in the greeting that the Turkic part of Professor I. G. Dobrodomov's personal library is carefully preserved at the Scientific Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This unique fund, donated to the university by his family, is a generous gift, because it is not just a collection of rare books, but a symbol of trust, respect and the common scientific path of the two countries and scientific schools.
The Kazakh Linguistic School was represented at the conference by Doctor of Philology, Professor of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Nursulu Shaimerdenova. Her report was devoted to the problems of interlanguage interaction, Turkic components in the Slavic language system and issues of scientific continuity in Turkology. The presentation provoked a lively discussion and high interest from specialists in various scientific fields.
After the plenary session, the work of the forum continued in four sections, where meaningful discussions and rich scientific exchange took place. The international conference was attended by representatives of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China and other countries. The participation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the IV Dobrodomov Readings confirmed the university's high international authority, strengthened ties with the world's leading scientific centers and became an important step in the development of humanitarian cooperation.
