Young Scientists of the Faculty of Physics and Technology Participated in a Meeting with Researchers Organized by the Almaty City Administration (SDG 3, SDG 11)

22 january, 2026

Young scientists of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in a meeting with researchers from higher education institutions and research institutes, organized by the Almaty City Administration. The event was held in the format of an open scientific dialogue and focused on the interaction between science, technology, and urban development.

The meeting brought together researchers whose scientific work is directly related to the socio-economic, environmental, and infrastructural development of Almaty. Particular attention was paid to the role of applied scientific research in shaping a long-term, sustainable, and high-quality urban environment.

Special emphasis was placed on issues of radiation and environmental safety of the population. Yuliya Airanovna Zaripova, a representative of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, delivered a presentation on the assessment of the impact of radon-generating radiation factors on public health. The presented results have practical significance for the development of measures aimed at reducing radiation risks in the urban environment and are directly aligned with SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-Being” and SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities.”

In addition, Margulan Kassenovich Ibraimov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and an alumnus of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, presented research developments in the field of seismobiomonitoring aimed at the short-term forecasting of earthquakes.

For the Almaty City Administration, a priority remains the establishment of systematic and open interaction with the scientific community, support for initiatives of young scientists, and the transformation of scientific research outcomes into practice-oriented projects. The results of the meeting will be taken into account in the activities of the Council for Science and Technology under the Almaty City Administration, as well as in the formation of thematic areas for scientific grants planned for the current year.
