Weekend Mountain Hike within the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals

On January 25, the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism organized a weekend mountain hike for young people and senior residents of the city of Almaty to one of the most popular ecotourism destinations of the Zailiysky Alatau — Kokzhailau.

The event was held within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (“Good Health and Well-Being”) and 11 (“Sustainable Cities and Communities”).

The mountain hike aimed to strengthen participants’ health, promote an active lifestyle, and foster a culture of recreation in harmony with nature. During the event, safety regulations were strictly observed, and participants were provided with information on the importance of recreational tourism and environmental responsibility.

Such initiatives enable the department to promote the values of sustainable development among different age groups of society and enhance the social significance of tourism.
