Interuniversity Event on Ethics and Responsibility in Social Media within the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals

30 january, 2026

On 30 January, as part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, an interuniversity educational event entitled “Ethics and Responsibility in Social Media” was held. The event brought together students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, majoring in Foreign Philology, and students of Caspian University, majoring in Petroleum Engineering. The meeting was designed to promote interdisciplinary interaction and to foster ethical awareness and critical thinking in the context of the digital environment.

The event was conducted in English and focused on the discussion of current ethical challenges related to the use of social media, including responsibility for online content, ethics of digital communication, the spread of misinformation, and the role of digital literacy in contemporary society.

The programme included the viewing and discussion of thematic video materials, student presentations, an interactive discussion, as well as a short final test aimed at assessing participants’ understanding of the key ideas. This format enabled participants not only to become familiar with the theoretical aspects of digital ethics, but also to reflect on their personal responsibility for online behaviour.

The event was organised by Adiliya Talasbekovna Alimbayeva, Svetlana Vladimirovna Novikova, Gulsima Kurbanbekovna Dairbekova, as well as Madina Maratovna Zhemileva, a first-year doctoral student in the programme Foreign Philology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The event served as an example of successful interuniversity cooperation and demonstrated the importance of integrating issues of digital ethics and sustainable development into the educational process, as well as the significance of fostering a responsible and conscious approach to social media use among students.
