The College of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized a meeting with witnesses of the December 1986 events.
The primary goal of the evening was to explain to the younger generation the hardships endured to achieve independence and the reality of the Jeltoqsan events. The event commenced with a minute of silence to honor and pay tribute to the victims of December. The honored guests were witnesses to the events that took place 39 years ago, which shook the world and deeply affected the Kazakh people: Myrzakul Abdigulov, Oralbek Kuletaev, Talgat Esbaev, and Rakhman Baigaliyev. During the meeting, the witnesses shared their memories, recounted emotional moments, and spoke about their participation in the events. Reflecting on the difficult days of protesting in the freezing cold, the guests were deeply moved by the event's significant historical and educational value.
The Director of the College, M.N. Appakova, emphasized that gaining independence was not easy and highlighted the immense responsibility placed on the young generation to uphold it. She congratulated the attendees on the Independence holiday and presented commemorative gifts to the witnesses of the event, which holds a special place in history as a symbol of both the nation's tragedy and its honor. The meaningful event was further enriched by patriotic songs performed by college artists, and students dedicated original poems to the Jeltoqsan events.
