An informational event titled “Forest and Biodiversity Conservation — A Legacy for Future Generations” was held at KazNU within the framework of SDG-15
In accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-15), on january 20, 2026, a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Syraiyl S., conducted an informational and educational event titled “Forest and Biodiversity Conservation — A Legacy for Future Generations” for second-year students of the educational program “6B01502 Biology”.
The main purpose of the event was to expand students’ knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals, explain the ecological importance of forests and biodiversity, and foster environmental awareness and responsibility for nature conservation.
The event was organized in an interactive format, encouraging active student participation. During the meeting, the meaning and importance of the Sustainable Development Goals were explained, the role of forests in ecosystems and the causes of biodiversity loss were discussed, and real examples of environmental issues in Kazakhstan and worldwide were presented. A discussion and Q&A session with students was also conducted.
Within the program, the following activities were implemented:
- explanation of the meaning and importance of the Sustainable Development Goals;
- discussion of the role of forest ecosystems and the importance of biodiversity conservation;
- consideration of real environmental issues in Kazakhstan and globally;
- organization of a student discussion session.
Information was delivered through presentations, visual materials, environmental videos, and group discussions. These approaches helped students better understand the material and apply it in practice.
Second-year students of the educational program “6B01502 Biology” participated in the event.
The event contributed to increasing students’ environmental awareness, strengthening their responsibility for nature conservation, and improving their understanding of sustainable development principles. In addition, students developed critical thinking and communication skills, and their ecological culture was strengthened.
