On February 9, the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty held a ceremonial event on the occasion of Iran’s National Day and the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution. The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Head of the Department of the Middle East and South Asia, and faculty members of the Iranian Studies program.
Close partnership relations have been established between the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Consulate General of Iran in Almaty. The Consulate actively participates in various joint cultural events organized by the Faculty.
During the ceremony, the Consul General, Ms. S. Ahmadi, delivered a speech highlighting the history of Iran and the country’s achievements. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on February 9, 2026, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Head of the MFA Representative Office in Almaty, Zhanibek Abdrashov, delivered congratulatory remarks. In his speech, he emphasized bilateral cooperation and the development of political and economic ties between the two countries.
The evening featured a performance by the renowned Iranian musical ensemble “Darvag.” A demonstration of “Zurkhaneh” — a traditional Iranian heroic sport inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity — was also presented.
