Implementing SDGs 4 and 5 in Education: An Event on the Role of Women in Science
As part of the educational and outreach work of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, on February 11, 2026, Senior Lecturer A.D. Serbaeva held an event titled "The Role of Women in Science: From Marie Curie to the Present Day." The event was implemented in the context of UN SDG-4 "Quality Education" and UN SDG-5 "Gender Equality."
The goal of the event was to popularize the role of women in science, explore the relationship between SDG-4 and SDG-5 in the educational process, and increase student interest in scientific research. Twenty-five students and three faculty members participated.
The presentation provided an overview of women's contributions to the development of science, focusing on the scientific achievements of Marie Curie and overcoming gender barriers in the scientific community. The achievements of contemporary female scientists, including the research activities of department staff, were also discussed.
The event featured an interactive format, with students participating in a discussion about the importance of quality education and equal opportunities for the sustainable development of society and the advancement of the scientific community.
