18 february, 2026

On February 17, 2026, the Winter School on the topic “Financial Literacy for a Sustainable Society” began its work at the Higher School of Economics and Business, Department of Finance and Accounting, within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The educational project is aimed at faculty members of higher education institutions, researchers, and representatives of academic management from CIS countries. The main goal is to develop professional competencies in financial literacy and integrate sustainable development principles into educational programs in economics, management, and social sciences.

Participants of the Winter School included faculty and staff from the Departments of Banking and Taxation and Finance of Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn (Bishkek) https://www.knu.kg/ky, as well as representatives of the Department of Economics and Tourism of Perfect University (Tashkent) https://tpu.uz/en.

In the context of digital transformation of financial markets, increasing macroeconomic volatility, and structural changes in the global economy, the formation of a systemic financial culture is becoming strategically important. Financial literacy is considered a key element of sustainable development, contributing to social stability, reducing inequality, and strengthening institutional resilience.

The Winter School program includes methodological approaches to teaching financial literacy, behavioral finance tools, mechanisms of sustainable and green finance, ESG approaches in the educational process, and best practices of academic integration within the CIS.

Opening the event, the Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting, R.B. Sartova, noted that financial literacy today is considered not only as an individual skill but also as an element of social capital contributing to the formation of a sustainable society. Economic responsibility of citizens, transparency of financial decisions, and the development of a long-term planning culture directly influence the achievement of national sustainable development priorities.

According to the organizers, represented by Dean Zh.Zh. Yermekova, the implementation of the Winter School will make a significant contribution to the development of academic cooperation among CIS countries and will help form modern methodological approaches for training specialists capable of ensuring the financial sustainability of society in accordance with international sustainable development principles.

The Winter School will serve as a platform for scientific and methodological cooperation, the development of joint educational initiatives, and strengthening integration processes in science and higher education.

The management of the Higher School of Economics and Business, represented by Dean Zh.Zh. Yermekova and Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting R.B. Sartova, expresses gratitude to colleagues from Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn and Perfect University for their active participation in the Winter School and for further cooperation.
