"Sustainable consumption and production”

On February 21, 2026, as a part of the university project on collaboration with the United Nations to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, the round table talks "Sustainable consumption and production” were held by the Foreign Languages Department faculty members A. Shayahmet, A. Dzhanuzakova, and M. Almugambetova. Professor Deborah Walker (California, USA), an experienced teacher of English as a second language (TESOL) and a renowned American animal and environmental activist, was invited as the keynote speaker for the English-language event. B2-level English learners A. Kulazhan, A. Ersain, A. Adil, A. Zhiekbai, N. Usenbayev, A. Nukhov, and A. Salikbayev delivered their presentations. R. Murzagali and E. Bazarbay produced a modern video reviewing information on the topic. I. Zhenis and S. Tabynbayev presented their videos interviewing students from the US states of Missouri, Virginia, New Jersey, and also from Afghanistan. A. Kuandykova and B. Abdikarim interviewed American students from Boston University and Massachusetts as well Japanese students from Sofia University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies for their videos. K. Azamatkyzy and A. Serik reinforced the concept of responsible consumption using the Kahoot play. First-year students unanimously agreed on the need for responsible consumption and what we should do in our everyday lives in Kazakhstan to be responsible consumers. In support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #12, the roundtable participants brought their colorful handmade posters with them to demonstrate their views.
