"Water Protection Challenge" Student Initiative

17 february, 2026

On February 17, 2026, the Faculty of Philology hosted an environmental campaign titled the "Water Protection Challenge" as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals implementation. This initiative focused on SDG 6: "Clean Water and Sanitation," aiming to foster a culture of water conservation and promote environmental awareness among the youth.

During the event, 2nd-year undergraduate students presented insightful presentations on the global water crisis and the vital importance of freshwater resources. The students produced a series of videos highlighting practical ways to save water in daily life — both on campus and at home — and launched a social media challenge to engage a wider audience in this mission.

Faculty members emphasized the critical need to protect water sources from pollution and discussed the fundamental link between proper sanitation and public health. To conclude the campaign, participants distributed educational flyers across the university campus and shared their proposals for sustainable water management. This initiative significantly contributed to raising environmental consciousness and encouraging students to act as responsible citizens.

Organizers: Senior Lecturer of the Department of Turkology and Language Theory Guldur Ualikhanova, department faculty members, and 2nd-year undergraduate students.
