Women in Science: An Inspiring Meeting with Professor Tamara Shalakhmetova

On the eve of International Women’s Day, the Department of Zoology, Histology, and Cytology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted an event titled “The Role of Women in Science.” The meeting highlighted the contribution of women scientists to the advancement of science (SDG 5), with special focus this year on the scientific career of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Tamara Minazhevna Shalakhmetova.

 Opening the event, Tamara Minazhevna addressed students and young researchers, sharing memories of her academic formation, first professional steps, and the people who played an important role in her scientific career. Her speech became an inspiring reflection on choosing a life path, the value of science, and the responsibility of researchers to future generations.

Head of the Department Gulnar Bolatovna Kegenova continued the meeting with a slide presentation highlighting key stages of Professor Shalakhmetova’s scientific and teaching activities, her contribution to biological science, training of young specialists, and the development of a scientific school.

Colleagues also shared warm remarks and memories, emphasizing the scholar’s high professionalism, dedication to the university, and strong mentoring role that helps young researchers find their path in science.

 

 

The event was held in a warm and inspiring atmosphere, offering students an opportunity to hear real-life scientific stories and realize that science is not only about discoveries and publications but also about the people who shape its future through their work, knowledge, and commitment.
