“How to Start a Career as a Lawyer?”

27 february, 2026

On February 27, 2026, a guest lecture titled “How to Start a Career as a Lawyer?” was held for students majoring in International Law at the Faculty of International Relations, Department of International Law, of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The speakers were representatives of the law firm Synergy Partners — lawyer Ali Dautalinov and HR Manager Meruert Bayaz.

During the meeting, the experts spoke about the first steps in building a legal career, employers’ expectations of entry-level specialists, and the key skills that should be developed during university studies. Special attention was paid to CV writing: the speakers explained in detail what employers look for, how to effectively present academic achievements and knowledge, and the common mistakes graduates often make.

A separate part of the lecture focused on practical experience — where and how students can gain it, and which internships and programs are most effective for launching a career. Ali Dautalinov shared real-life case studies from his professional practice and explained what lawyers in law firms actually do, the tasks young specialists face, and the areas that are currently in highest demand.

HR Manager Meruert Bayaz discussed the candidate selection process, the criteria for successfully passing interviews, and the development of soft skills, emphasizing the importance of proactivity, responsibility, and a high level of foreign language proficiency for international lawyers.

At the end of the meeting, the company representatives invited students to send their CVs for internships and traineeships to: career@synergy-law.com.

The guest lecture was held in an open and interactive dialogue format, generated great interest among students, and became a valuable platform for the professional orientation of future specialists in the field of international law.

The event was organized by the Department of International Law under the leadership of PhD, associate professor Altayeva K.Zh., in partnership with the law firm «Synergy Partners».
