18 february, 2026

A scientific and practical seminar "Functional analysis of sociolinguistic terminology: from theory to educational adaptation" was held at alFarabi Kazakh National University. The event brought together teachers, doctoral students and young researchers working in the field of sociolinguistics, Turkology and language teaching methods. The organizer was the Scientific Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of KazNU, and the seminar itself was held within the framework of the GF project for 2024-2026 "Turkic languages of Kazakhstan in the context of spiritual modernization of society: from graphics to epic text".

The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the theoretical and applied aspects of sociolinguistic terminology, its functional potential, and the possibilities of its adaptation in the educational environment. The participants paid special attention to how terminological processes reflect contemporary trends in language policy and cultural transformations in the Turkic world.

The moderator was Iskendir Akkuralay, PhD, a leading specialist of the “Manuscripts Laboratory” of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaistics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In her speech, she emphasized the relevance of the functional approach to the analysis of terminology in modern humanities research and its importance for updating the content of language education. The keynote report of the seminar was delivered by Ainur Nurakhynova, a doctoral student of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Master of Pedagogical Sciences and Master of Philology. In the report “Functional Analysis of Sociolinguistic Terminology: From Theory to Educational Adaptation,” the results of the scientific understanding of sociolinguistic terms from the perspective of their didactic potential were presented, and models for their adaptation to higher education practice were proposed.

Great interest among the audience was aroused by the report of Mammadali Hasanov, Candidate of Philological Sciences, PhD, lecturer at RUDN University and specialist of the Distance Learning Center “Horizon” of the Institute of the Russian Language of RUDN. In his presentation “Functional Distribution of Languages in the Azerbaijani Community in the City of Moscow,” the speaker covered issues of language stratification, bilingualism, and communicative strategies in a diasporic environment, which expanded the sociolinguistic context of the discussion.

Leading scholars and young researchers took part in the discussion and summarizing of the seminar, including Nursulu Shaimerdenova, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, Executive Director of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaistics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, as well as institute staff, doctoral students, and master’s students. The participants noted the high scientific level of the reports, the relevance of the issues raised, and the practical significance of the presented results.

Scientific meetings at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University logically continue this agenda: they form an intellectual basis for interdisciplinary dialogue, contribute to the development of common scientific guidelines, and strengthen Kazakhstan’s contribution to the development of Turkological science. Thanks to such initiatives, the university strengthens its role as one of the key centers of Turkological research in the region.

The event held became a significant platform for the exchange of scientific experience, strengthening academic cooperation, and increasing the scientific potential of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the national and international scientific and educational space.
