Modern Approaches to Improving the Quality of Education Discussed

From March 3 to March 6, 2026, the Department of Academic Affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized an expert strategic session titled “Academic Governance and Quality of Education: An Intensive Program for Leaders and Faculty Members” for faculty leadership and the university’s academic staff.

The session was attended by the Deputy Deans for Academic and Methodological Affairs of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, deputy heads of departments, heads of departments, and members of the academic staff.

During the expert strategic session, the following topics were discussed: “Systematizing Processes: Process Management in Academic Activities”, “Implementation of Dual Education and Micro-credentials: A Practicum for Heads of Departments”, “University Strategy and Ranking Indicators: What Is the Responsibility of the Department?”, “Teaching Ethics and Conflict Management”.

Based on the knowledge gained from this expert session, the leadership and academic staff of the Department of the Middle East and South Asia of the Faculty of Oriental Studies organized a special strategic expert seminar for other faculty members of the department.

The methodological seminar was opened by the Head of the Department, Zhiekbayeva A.B., who delivered a presentation on “The Process of Implementing Micro-credentials” and highlighted global practices of introducing micro-credentials in higher education institutions and lifelong learning systems.

On the topic “Establishing an Analytical Group at the Department Level and Conducting Analysis Using the SciVal Platform,” presentations were delivered by the Deputy Head of the Department for Scientific-Innovative and International Affairs Zhumazhanova F.T. and Senior Lecturer Kairanbayev N.S.. They introduced the key features of working with the SciVal platform and encouraged faculty members to actively increase the number of their scientific publications.

The rules for effectively organizing the educational process, including “credit transfer (recognition of courses) and the procedures for admitting students transferred from other universities,” were presented by the Deputy Heads of the Department for Academic and Methodological Affairs Boranbayeva A.Zh. and Zharbosynova N. They also emphasized the importance of choosing an appropriate field of study for students transferring from other institutions when studying at the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

The seminar also addressed “Effective Use of GenAI Tools to Improve the Quality of Education.” Senior Lecturer Bokuleva B.S. shared methods and approaches for applying GenAI tools in the educational process with the department’s faculty members.

All members of the department’s academic staff participated in the seminar.
