The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a solemn event "Women, Peace and Security: modern priorities of gender policy", dedicated to International Women's Day on March 8.
The event was attended by female university scientists, representatives of the faculty, as well as foreign female teachers from Korea, China, Egypt, and Japan, who teach classes at KazNU.
Today, about 70% of the employees of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University are women. There are 966 women scientists successfully working at the university. Of the 647 doctors of sciences, 472 are women. In addition, 412 out of 697 candidates of sciences and 444 out of 588 PhD doctors are representatives of the fair sex. Almost 40 percent of the students are also girls.
The solemn evening was opened with a congratulatory speech by Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev, who emphasized the role of women in society and science. "Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted: "The active participation of women in building a just Kazakhstan is a crucial factor. Only by expanding women's political and economic opportunities will we be able to ensure sustainable development." Today's women, including the women mothers of KazNU, are not only keepers of the family hearth, but also highly qualified specialists, successful scientists and personalities who make important decisions.
In the international arena, the United Nations is the main global driver of women's rights protection. It is symbolic that in the list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the fifth goal is fully dedicated to ensuring gender equality. For our university, women scientists are the pinnacle of science, the light of education and the standard of intelligence",- said the rector.
As part of the festive event, female teachers and scientists were awarded the Al-Farabi gold medal and the Yeren Yenbegi Ushin medal, as well as letters of appreciation for their significant contribution to the development of the university and the field of science.
The solemn event continued with a concert program. At the end of the celebration, flowers were presented to all participants of the event on behalf of the university administration.
