9 march, 2026

National Dress Day in Kazakhstan is celebrated annually on March 18 as part of the Nauryz spring festival (decade of Nauryz). The national costume of each nation is an amazing phenomenon reflecting the peculiarities of culture and its history. It helps to better understand the essence of the mentality of indigenous people, which is undoubtedly an important part of the learning process for international students.

Kazakh national clothing is an object of the material culture of the Kazakhs. However, in Soviet times, young people began to move away from the culture of wearing national costumes. Undoubtedly, the official recognition of the Nauryz holiday played a major role in the process of returning the national costume to the masses. During the celebration of Nauryz, it is considered obligatory to wear a camisole, chapan, borik, skullcap, regardless of age. It is during the Kazakh New year that the beauty, variety of embroidery, and brightness of colors of traditional Kazakh clothing are fully demonstrated. It is encouraging that today in the wardrobe of every Kazakh there are, if not a suit, then certainly its elements. It is encouraging that the national costume or its elements are becoming commonplace today. Decorated with embroidery, the spectacular vestments attract attention with their beauty and brightness.

The national costume is the wealth of the people. Each nation inhabiting Kazakhstan has unique costumes and decorations that emphasize the identity and uniqueness of the culture. Popularization, preservation and development of national culture implements the provisions of the sustainable development program - partnership for sustainable development, as well as high-quality education, which is impossible for foreign students without understanding the culture and traditions of the Kazakh people. Teachers of the Department of Language and General Education Training of Foreigners, which is a structural unit of the Faculty of Pre-university Education, see one of their goals as popularization of the traditions and culture of the Kazakh people. It should be noted that foreign students get to know the culture and history of the country of study with great respect and interest. For this purpose, the subjects "History and Culture of Kazakhstan" and "Regional Studies" are included in the curriculum, and thematic events are held by the curators.
