The Women’s Union of KazNU, established in 2012 on the initiative of Academician, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Bagizbayeva Maia Mikhailovna, has over the years of its activity transformed into an authoritative public platform uniting proactive, professional, and socially responsible women of our university.
At present, under the leadership of the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dzholdasbekova Bayan Umirbekovna, the Women’s Union of KazNU brings together women’s councils of faculties and structural divisions, actively cooperates with republican organizations, and makes a significant contribution to the development of gender policy in the academic environment.
The main mission of the Union is to promote the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of women, families, and children, and to strengthen the role of women in the socio-political, socio-economic, and cultural life of the university and the country. The university systematically conducts scientific seminars, round tables, discussions, and debates on issues of gender equality, legal culture, and social responsibility. Particular attention is paid to the formation of gender culture among youth, the prevention of domestic violence, and the development of the values of a strong family and conscious parenthood.
A significant part of the Union’s work has become the support of girls in science and technology. The forums “Girls in STEM,” thematic discussions, and the creation of student scientific communities contribute to expanding the participation of girls in technical and natural science fields. Special attention is given to the development of women’s leadership. Training seminars, leadership lectures, and projects aimed at promoting women to decision-making levels form a new generation of professionals capable of effective management, making strategic decisions, and bearing responsibility for the development of society.
The activities of the Union fully correspond to the priorities of state policy and the tasks of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women, as well as the goals of sustainable development. The Women’s Union of KazNU is not just a public association; it is a space for dialogue, support, mutual respect, and professional growth; it is an example of how a university can be a center not only of academic knowledge but also of progressive social transformations.
I am confident that in the future the Women’s Union of KazNU will continue to play a key role in strengthening the principles of justice, equality, and humanism—the values that form the foundation of our university.
