SDG №11: «Eco Students: Clean City!» – A Curatorial Hour Was Held

10 february, 2026

At the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, lecturers of the Department of the History of Kazakhstan, E. Noyanov and Zh. Arynov, together with students, held an educational meeting dedicated to issues of urban cleanliness, environmental protection, and the development of ecological culture. The main purpose of the event was to strengthen young people’s love for their homeland, promote a careful attitude toward nature, and raise awareness of the importance of environmental responsibility in modern society.

During the meeting, the lecturers discussed current environmental challenges with the students. Particular attention was paid to maintaining the cleanliness of the urban environment, protecting nature, and promoting ecological awareness among citizens. It was emphasized that environmental protection is not only the responsibility of governmental or public organizations but also the personal responsibility of every individual.

It was also noted that patriotism is expressed not only through respect for the history and cultural heritage of one’s country but also through a caring attitude toward the natural environment of one’s homeland. Protecting nature, maintaining the cleanliness of one’s city, and treating the environment responsibly are important manifestations of civic responsibility. Such initiatives aim to foster among young people values such as respect for nature, adherence to environmental ethics, and the development of social responsibility.

During the discussion, students actively shared their opinions as well. Topics such as environmental challenges in urban areas, proper waste sorting, preservation of green spaces, and the rational use of natural resources were addressed. This demonstrated that students are not indifferent to environmental issues and are willing to actively participate in public life.

The event also highlighted the importance of developing ecological culture, following the principles of sustainable development, using natural resources responsibly, and preserving a healthy environment for future generations. The lecturers encouraged students to demonstrate an active civic position, participate in environmental initiatives, and contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of their city.

Such meetings play an important educational role in increasing environmental awareness among young people, fostering respect for nature, and promoting civic engagement among students. Moreover, these initiatives strengthen students’ sense of responsibility toward society and deepen their love for their homeland.

According to the organizers, environmental protection is a shared responsibility. A clean and well-maintained city is an important guarantee of the health of its residents and the well-being of future generations. Therefore, every individual should contribute to protecting nature and maintaining a clean environment.
