On March 17, 2026, a research seminar was held at the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The seminar was conducted by third-year PhD student Kurbanali Zhazira (program “8D02209 – Oriental Studies”) on the topic “Marriage Relations between the Han Dynasty and the Wusun State.”

The seminar was attended by faculty members, doctoral students, and researchers interested in Chinese history and culture. The political nature of marriage diplomacy between the Han dynasty and the Wusun state was analyzed based on historical sources, along with its impact on the political, social, economic, and cultural development of nomadic societies.

In addition, a comparative analysis highlighted the features of Han marriage diplomacy with other nomadic states, examined the role of Chinese princesses in diplomatic processes, and identified the military-strategic significance of such alliances.

As a result of the seminar, it was decided to prepare a scientific publication and organize additional meetings for further in-depth research on the topic.

The staff of the Issyk State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve also extends congratulations on March 17 — “Shanyrak Day.” In Kazakh culture, the shanyrak holds sacred meaning, symbolizing continuity of generations and unity. It represents statehood, stability, and integrity. On this special occasion, we wish prosperity and well-being to every home — may unity and growth flourish under one shanyrak.
