A Wishing Tree as a Symbol of Friendship: Kazakhstan and China in the Rhythm of Spring Renewal
On Renewal Day—Zhanaru kunі—international students from China created a unique art object that combined Kazakh traditions and their personal aspirations.
The event demonstrated how knowledge of language can become a tool for partnership. Drawing on a well-researched Russian mnemonic about the colors of the rainbow, students from China created a vibrant collective mural. But this is not just a painting—it is a "Wishing Tree." On each vibrant handprint, the students inscribed their dreams: of peace, successful studies, and a strong friendship between our peoples.
In Chinese culture, a tree is a symbol of longevity and growth, and in the Kazakh tradition of Nauryz, it is a symbol of rebirth. By combining these meanings, the students created a living manifesto of international cooperation. This "Wishing Tree" proves that when we understand each other's language and share common dreams, sustainable development goals become a reality.
