Report on Open Advisory Hour in line with UN SDGs 4 and 8

27 march, 2026

On March 27, 2026, as part of their teaching internship, master's students G. Orynbay and A. Izbasarova held an open advisory hour for first-third-year students supervised by advisers N.A. Altybaeva and A.D. Serbaeva on the topic: "Financial Culture: Today's Knowledge, Tomorrow's Success."

The event aimed to develop students' basic competencies in financial literacy and conscious personal resource management. The topic aligns with the priorities of the UN SDG, specifically Goal 4 "Quality Education" and Goal 8 "Decent Work and Economic Growth," as it promotes the development of practical skills necessary for young people's professional and social success.

During the advisory hour, key aspects of financial culture were discussed, including the principles of rational income distribution, savings, and investment fundamentals. Particular attention was paid to developing personal budgeting skills and preventing financial risks, such as excessive debt and impulsive spending.

Students were introduced to modern tools for tracking and analyzing personal finances, including the Zenmoney and CoinKeeper mobile apps, as well as educational resources aimed at improving financial literacy. The class also included a review of classic and modern financial literature, including "Rich Dad, Poor Dad," "The Richest Man in Babylon," and "The Millionaire Next Door."

The interactive format of the class encouraged active participation in the discussion. Students analyzed the causes of financial difficulties, shared personal budgeting experiences, and discussed the importance of savings as a tool for financial stability.

The event demonstrated a strong interest among students in financial literacy and confirmed the importance of integrating such educational initiatives into the university's curriculum.

Overall, the open advisor lesson was aimed at improving students’ financial literacy and developing their ability to manage personal finances.
