Andrey Grzybowski, Doctor of Medicine, professor and international expert in the field of public health, epidemiology and biostatistics, whose professional activity has been closely linked to the development of science and higher education for many years, recently turned 50. Over the years of his scientific and pedagogical activity, he has made a significant contribution to the development of public health and the training of scientific personnel, having graduated 50 PhD doctors, 38 of them in Kazakhstan, 9 in Norway and 3 in Sweden.

In 2005, Andrey Grzybowski received the degree of Doctor of Medicine at the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden) — one of the world’s leading medical universities, where Nobel Prizes in Physiology or Medicine are awarded. Andrey Mechislavovich has been cooperating with Kazakhstani universities since 2011. At present, he is a visiting professor at the Department of Health Policy and Organization of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Active cooperation with KazNU has continued since 2019.

Professor A.M. Grzybowski holds a number of responsible academic and expert positions. He is an advisor to the rector of REAVIZ University (St. Petersburg) on scientific and innovation activities, a professor at Sechenov University (Moscow), and Chief Researcher of the Arctic Monitoring Laboratory. In different years, he worked as a senior advisor to the Chief Epidemiologist of Norway, a professor of public health at the Arctic University of Norway, a senior advisor to the University of Oslo on biostatistics, and also coordinated international grant programs Norway Grants and European Economic Area Grants in the field of healthcare.

Andrey Grzybowski is the author of more than 600 scientific publications, including over 200 articles in journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, including Q1 quartile journals. His h-index is 26. In 2019–2024, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Human Ecology,” was a member of editorial boards of leading international scientific publications, and was engaged as an expert of the World Health Organization on issues of assessing the vulnerability of the population of Kazakhstan to climate change.

A special place in the activities of Professor A.M. Grzybowski is occupied by work with young researchers. He is a recognized specialist in the field of statistical analysis and academic writing, consistently training master’s and doctoral students in modern methods of scientific research and preparation of publications for international scientific journals. Over the years of cooperation with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Professor A.M. Grzybowski has published more than 40 scientific articles affiliated with the university in co-authorship with Kazakhstani authors. Under his scientific supervision, 5 doctoral students of KazNU are in the process of preparation for defense, and he is the initiator of three scientific projects with the participation of the department’s faculty members. The professor regularly delivers lectures, conducts master classes and seminars in the disciplines “Biostatistics”, “Advanced Epidemiology” and “Academic Writing”.

For his significant contribution to the development of the medical school of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and fruitful scientific and educational activities, Professor Andrey Grzybowski was awarded the title “Honorary Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University” in 2023.
