The beginning of this cooperation was laid back in the 1960s, when the dean of the faculty was Khasen Ibrashev, who always supported mathematicians of Kazakhstan and promoted interuniversity contacts among scientists. He organized scientific and methodological forums and conferences at which the luminaries of mathematical science spoke — academicians M.A. Lavrentyev, N.N. Yanenko, S.L. Sobolev, M.M. Lavrentyev, G.I. Marchuk and others. Thanks to this cooperation, many talented young Kazakhstani mathematicians of that time completed scientific internships and postgraduate studies in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. Among them, one can note outstanding scientists, laureates of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan — Shaltai Smagulov (1949–2003) and Nargoza Danaev (1947–2014). They created in Kazakhstan a scientific school in computational mathematics and computational hydrodynamics.
At present, a representative of this scientific school, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Temirbekov Nurlan Mukhanovich, works very productively with scientists of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Together with the Director of the Institute of Computational Technologies, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Ivanovich Shokin, and Oleg Lvovich Zhizhimov, in 2018–2020 he carried out the scientific project “Integrated Distributed Information System of Akademgorodok of the city of Almaty”. Temirbekov N.M. is the author of a geoinformation system for assessing the impact of anthropogenic sources of pollution on the air quality of an industrial city. At present, Academicians of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhumagulov B.T. and Temirbekov N.M. are working on the development of mathematical models of artificial intelligence in geology.
Academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Temirbekov N.M. delivered a scientific report in November at the joint seminar of the Federal Research Center for Information and Computational Technologies, Novosibirsk State University, and Novosibirsk State Technical University “Information and Computational Technologies” under the leadership of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor V.B. Barakhnin and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences S.B. Medvedev. The topic of the report was “Development of predictive-search technologies for identifying ore-prospective techno-objects using artificial intelligence.” Due to the significant scientific results of Temirbekov N.M. and his students, they are well known in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. Therefore, to the Joint Scientific Council of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies, the Director of the Institute of Dynamic Systems, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences I.V. Bychkov, and the Rector of Novosibirsk State University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences M.P. Fedoruk, sent a proposal to nominate Temirbekov Nurlan Mukhanovich for the title of Honorary Doctor of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This issue was included in the agenda of the meeting of the Joint Scientific Council of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies, which took place on November 18, 2025. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Igor Vyacheslavovich Bychkov, in his speech, noted that Professor Temirbekov N.M. is a well-known mathematician and organizer of higher education and science in Kazakhstan. Based on the results of scientific research, he has published four monographs and more than 100 scientific articles, including 56 in journals indexed in the scientometric database Scopus, and has supervised 12 Candidates of Sciences and PhD holders.
As a result of a secret ballot, the Joint Scientific Council of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies supported the candidacy of Temirbekov Nurlan Mukhanovich for the title of Honorary Doctor of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. At the general meeting of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which took place on November 19, 2025, the candidacy of Temirbekov Nurlan Mukhanovich was unanimously elected as Honorary Doctor of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This high title confirms that the scientific results of the Kazakhstani scientist have been recognized by the Russian Academy of Sciences with its 300-year history.
We congratulate our colleague, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor-Researcher of the Department of Mathematical and Computer Modeling, Temirbekov Nurlan Mukhanovich, on his election as Honorary Doctor of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We wish him good health and further creative success in training scientific personnel in Kazakhstan.
