In the framework of the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A.Nazarbayev, who declared the 2019 year as the Year of Youth, the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan (PAC), with the assistance of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan (NQF), jointly with Al-Farabi KazNU, organized and conducted a seminar-lecture on environmental safety for students.
The event was attended by members of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, students, scientists from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, as well as employees of the Center for Physical and Chemical Research and Analysis Methods of Al-Farabi KazNU.
As noted by the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi KazNU, Ph.D., Associate Professor Khaidar Tasibekov, the topic of today's lecture-seminar is very relevant in the era of ecologization of the socio-economic system of leading states and corresponds to the state policy in the field of environmental safety of the country, which is aimed at ensuring the protection of natural systems, vital public interests and individual rights from threats arising from as a result of anthropogenic and natural environmental impacts.
During the workshop, a report was made by a member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, academician, professor, Laureate of the State Prize in the field of science and technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mikhail Nauryzbaev; Professor, Director of the Center for Physical and Chemical Research and Analysis Methods (TSFHMA) Bolat Kenesov; Head of the Laboratory of Environmental Engineering Center for Comprehensive Environmental Research, RSE «Institute of Nuclear Physics» Varvara Makarova; and Director of the Atomic Energy Information Center of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan, Art. Lecturer of the Department of Ecology of Saken Seyfullin KazATU Seit Aliyev.
Scientists presented reports in the field of environmental safety, which were discussed by the participants in the seminar. Student youth, together with expert scientists, offered their vision on resolving issues in the implementation of scientific and practical work to ensure environmental safety.
On the second day, the participants visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics (Alatau Settlement), the leading scientific organization of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of nuclear physics and solid state physics, radioecological research, nuclear and radiation technologies. Students had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with some large objects from the arsenal of the INP scientific and technical base (VVR-K nuclear reactor, U-150M isochronous cyclotron, UKP-2-1 electrostatic accelerator, ELV-4 industrial electron accelerator, research laboratories and scientific-technical centers with modern analytical and testing equipment.
